FBI director James Comey on Tuesday told a Senate panel that the Republican Party, commonly referred to as the Grand Old Party were also victims of hacking by Russia. Comey said there was “penetration on the Republican side of the aisle and old Republican National Committee domains” no longer in use.
Comey’s comments would be contrary to previous reports by the Republicans that they were not hacked during the US elections.
“There was evidence of hacking directed at state-level organizations, state-level campaigns, and the RNC, but old domains of the RNC, meaning old emails they weren’t using. None of that was released.” Comey said.
Comey said there was no sign “that the Trump campaign or the current RNC was successfully hacked.”
